Electromechanica, Inc. provided design and prototyping services to Masscal, Inc. for a new analytical instrument. This instrument is a hybrid Quartz Crystal Microbalance / Heat Conduction Calorimetry (QCM/HCC) technology developed and patented by Dr. Allan Smith. QCM/HCC is an isothermal gravimetric/calorimetric technique providing simultaneous mass change and thermal power measurements on mounted thin films exposed to fluid mixtures.
Electromechanica, Inc. was contracted to take this technology as it existed in the lab and design a fully functional prototype system incorporating numerous improvements. The original schedule for this project was 6 months. In middle November, unforeseen circumstances pushed up that delivery date to the second week in January. Electromechanica, Inc. devoted the needed resources to meeting this new 7 week deadline and delivered on time for the new schedule.
All design, prototyping and machining was done in-house to meet the deadline requirements.
Updates
Electromechanica, Inc. has delivered the first QCM/HCC Model 1 system to the Chemistry Department of Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. This system has incorporated several upgrades from the first prototype including an advanced micro fluidics system, re-designed sample chambers and thermopile sensors.
