Jack Daniel’s ®Butler

✔ Glasses
✔ Mixers
✔ Delicious Jack Daniel’s Whiskey®
✔ Bartending robotic butler to serve it

Electromechanica was hired by Stuff Magazine to design and build a robotic entertainment butler for a promotion with Jack Daniel’s Whiskey. We worked with the marketing and advertising teams at Dennis Publishing, Universal McCann and Brown-Forman to create a truly novel and innovative device to market their product. This unique project involved the creation of a device to promote the Jack Daniel’s brand by fusing it with a cool array of entertainment electronics and custom robotics

The robot was prominently promoted in the magazine and showcased at several promotional party events in NYC. A huge hit at these events it attracted patrons and onlookers to be come the focus of the party. Judging by the number of partygoers who enjoyed drinks from the robotic bartender and wanted pictures with ‘Jack’ it was hugely successful.

Drink dispensing is core to the system. The dispensing arm provides three degrees of freedom. The shoulder provides rotation and elevation and the wrist rotates the dispensing mechanism.

The system has 2 reservoirs that contain Jack Daniel’s Whiskey and a mixer. A pair of peristaltic pumps deliver metered amounts of the fluids to the dispensing nozzle to pour a perfect cocktail!

The stainless steel bar includes 7 (for Old Number 7 of course) coasters where drink or shot glasses are placed. Capacitive proximity sensors under the coasters sense the glasses so the PLC based control system can automatically pour the appropriate drinks.

With a flat screen TV, stereo receiver, DVD player, Sirius Satellite Radio and iPod the system provides several entertainment options for users.
